Climate Action Data Trust appoints Yuvaraj Dinesh Babu as Executive Director
SINGAPORE (4 May 2023) – The Climate Action Data Trust (CAD Trust), a decentralised metadata platform that links, aggregates and harmonises all major carbon registry data, has announced the appointment of Yuvaraj Dinesh Babu as Executive Director, with effect from 1 May 2023.
Based in Singapore, Dinesh will be responsible for the entire operations of the CAD Trust. With CAD Trust headquartered in Singapore, Dinesh’s appointment reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting Singapore in taking a leadership position in driving enhanced transparent accounting across global carbon markets. He will be reporting to the CAD Trust Council.
With over 29 years of experience in carbon markets, greenhouse gas mitigation technologies assessment, and advisory in the renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change sectors, Dinesh joins CAD Trust from Ernst&Young (EY), where he was an Executive Director. While at EY, he led the World Bank-funded and State Bank of India-operated Grid Connected Solar Rooftop PV Technical Assistance Programme (SUPRABHA) for 17 States in India since August 2017 as well as other carbon advisory-related assignments. Prior to this, Dinesh was working with Nexant Inc, serving as its Chief of Party for the USAID-funded Partnership to Advance Clean Energy – Deployment (PACE-D) (TA) in India. Earlier, Dinesh served as the Director of Bangkok-based Asian Greenhouse Gas Management Center, an initiative implemented by GHG Management Institute and Asian Institute of Technology funded by USAID/Bangkok’ Low Emissions Asian Development (LEAD) TA Programme. He also held senior positions at Asia Carbon Group and IDEAcarbon’s The Carbon Rating Agency.
Dirk Forrister, President and CEO, IETA, said: “We are delighted to have Dinesh join the CAD Trust as Executive Director. With carbon markets’ growing potential to unlock finance to achieve climate goals, the CAD Trust is becoming an invaluable tool that serves as an aggregating force in the overall carbon market ecosystem and we’re confident that Dinesh’s breadth of knowledge will strengthen the platform’s offerings. His extensive experience complements our commitment to facilitate collaboration between countries, stakeholders, and businesses on international greenhouse gas emissions trading and we look forward to seeing the CAD Trust advance its mission under his leadership.”
Dinesh Babu, Executive Director, CAD Trust, said: “I am honoured to receive this appointment. CAD Trust has an important mission to drive effective climate action through data and technology and has made great progress since its launch last year. I look forward to working with the team to demonstrate reliability, integrity, innovation, and transparency – the four tenets of sustainable carbon markets – as we continue our work to build a more sustainable future.”
Since its official launch in December 2022, CAD Trust, which was established by the International Emissions Trading Association, the World Bank, and the Singapore Government, has been onboarding carbon registries and finalising its Data Layer (Data Dashboard) which will be presented at Innovate4Climate in Bilbao, Spain on 24th May 2023.
