CAD Trust is pleased to announce that Node-as-a Service (NaaS) is now available for registries to simplify integration as part of our v2.0 transition

This service is part of our transition to Data Model v2.0 and ongoing efforts to support connecting registry partners, with more to come throughout July and August.

The CAD Trust infrastructure is decentralised. Each connecting registry maintains control of their data and systems, sharing the information CAD Trust requires via API, structured to our common data model. This data set is then shared to that registry’s node on a public blockchain network in a tamper-proof way, contributing to a harmonised global data set. This model ensures that only the registry operators can sign off on and edit the information mirrored from their registry, while giving all CAD Trust users access to an auditable global record of activity across diverse systems.

To connect to CAD Trust using data model v1.0, registry operators needed to set up and maintain their own CAD Trust node and Chia node on a remote server. This process may create friction for smaller teams with limited technical resources.

As part of the transition to data model v2.0, we are changing our default connection model to a managed Node-as-a-Service (NaaS). Just like before, CAD Trust will not charge programmes and governments for the connection. Switching to this model will have the added benefits of simplifying internal workflows and reducing resource needs for the registry operators. This will allow the registry teams to focus entirely on data mapping, uploads and API integration, without the overhead of managing their own blockchain environment.

How a managed node set up facilitates integration with CAD Trust:

  • No blockchain infrastructure setup or maintenance required.
  • You will download the CAD Trust application, set up the API endpoints, and share the information structured to data model v2.0.
  • The NaaS set-up will share the registry information to the programme’s node on the network, with the same permissions as before.
  • All maintenance and any troubleshooting related to the node will be handled by Chia, our data layer vendor.
  • The CAD Trust team will continue supporting connecting registries on any questions related to data mapping or API setup.

Registries interested in connecting to CAD Trust can refer to the CAD Trust Connectivity Deck and contact the team for more details.

Programmes and governments operating registries are key partners in CAD Trust’s mission to grow connected, high-integrity carbon markets. We look forward to working collaboratively throughout our v2.0 transition.

About CAD Trust

CAD Trust is a nonprofit operating public data infrastructure that connects carbon credit registries worldwide. CAD Trust provides the harmonised, transparent layer that makes reliable, cross-system carbon credit accounting possible at scale.

With CAD Trust, governments, crediting programmes, and oversight bodies can verify, reconcile, and report on carbon credits across systems. This supports government oversight and reporting obligations such as under Article 6.2, lowers the cost of participation, and creates a foundation for integrity work, accounting, and target-setting.
