Climate Action Data Trust partners with ITN to highlight the power of data and innovation in carbon markets.

Launching at the International Emissions Trading Association’s (IETA) Asia Climate Summit in Tokyo on October 24th-26th 2023

Carbon markets play an important role in climate action by providing economic incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions while driving much needed finance that supports nature and benefits local communities.

“Carbon Markets: The Power of Data & Innovation” is a global digital campaign that aims to unveil the often-overlooked narrative of impact within carbon market data, showcasing the transformative power of technology in driving positive change for the environment and local communities.

The campaign will emphasise the real-world impact of accurate and accessible carbon market data, highlighting tangible effects on the planet and ultimately benefiting communities. By humanising the data and showcasing innovative solutions, the campaign shifts the narrative from abstract data and numbers to compelling stories of change.

“Carbon Markets: The Power of Data & Innovation” is led by the Climate Action Data Trust, an Initiative for public good headquartered in Singapore and founded by the World Bank, IETA, and the government of Singapore. Each partner in the campaign will share their unique story using their preferred format. The official launch of the campaign is scheduled to take place at IETA’s Asia Climate Summit in Tokyo, on 26th October 2023.

Anchored by meteorologist and presenter Clare Nasir from ITN’s London studio, the campaign and programme aims to educate and empower companies, policymakers, and journalists to leverage carbon market data for decarbonization strategies, policies, and climate storytelling. ‘Carbon Markets: The Power of Data & Innovation’ will feature interviews from CAD Trust and the World Bank as well as editorial content, exploring key themes including:

  • Data transparency and accessibility
  • Technology and innovation
  • Collaboration and partnership
  • Human impact and storytelling

“Each set of carbon project data tells a unique story. Through the ‘Carbon Markets: The Power of Data & Innovation’ Programme we aim to provide a joint platform for inspiring storytelling about the role of data and innovation in enhancing transparency in carbon markets and accelerating the net zero transition” said Lukasz Biernacki, Communications & Marketing Lead for CAD Trust.

‘Carbon Markets: The Power of Data & Innovation’ will combine expert interviews, news items and reporter-led sponsored editorial profiles. The programme will be launched at the IETA’s Asia Climate Summit in Tokyo on October 24th-26th 2023. Following the launch, the programme will be hosted on the ITN Business content hub and the New Scientist website and will be supported by an advertising campaign. Partners will also have the option to have their film promoted to The Economist audience via a highly targeted global advertising campaign.

Nina Harrison-Bell, Head of ITN Business said “Climate action is high on everyone’s agenda, and we want to celebrate those acting efficiently, effectively and transparently. Partnering with the Climate Action Data Trust is a natural fit for this programme, as they foster transparency in carbon markets through open data.”
