Innovate4Climate (I4C) is the World Bank’s annual global conference focused on carbon pricing, carbon markets, and climate finance. The event brings together leaders from the public and private sectors to drive climate action across finance, markets, policy, and technology.

Advancing Carbon Markets Infrastructure: Practical Guidance for Governance, Security and Interoperability

This session will launch and explore in depth the five technical guidance notes developed by the Carbon Markets Infrastructure Working Group (CMI WG) to support the development of a safe, interoperable, and efficient carbon market infrastructure. As carbon markets grow, standardized frameworks and core services are essential to ensure trust, transparency, and market integrity.

The discussion will spotlight cross-stakeholder collaboration in defining foundational principles and infrastructure components across key areas:

  • Ecosystem governance
  • Information security and transaction integrity
  • Data and systems interoperability, including digital MRV

Drawing on the work of the CMI WG—alongside complementary global initiatives—the session will provide practical insights and actionable recommendations to guide the next phase of infrastructure development.

  • Bhutan shares its journey in developing digital carbon infrastructure as part of its strategy to participate in carbon markets.
  • CAD Trust will present efforts in building a global infrastructure that links carbon credit registries and promotes trusted, transparent market data.

In the spirit of I4C’s collaborative ethos, this lightning talk format is designed to spark dialogue and knowledge sharing. Attendees are invited to engage directly with speakers in an informal setting—ask questions, exchange insights, and explore solutions at the intersection of national action and international collaboration.
